Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor Scott Brown has been named head of the Department of Educational Psychology (EPSY) at the Neag School. He takes over these duties following the recent appointment of Professor Del Siegle as Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Affairs of the Neag School. Siegle had served as department head since 2011.
Brown, who celebrated 35 years at UConn this past year, was designated a Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor — the highest honor bestowed upon UConn faculty — in 2014. He is an internationally recognized expert in learning and cognitive processing who studies problem-based learning environments as a context for learning across the age span. He also serves as co-director of the GlobalEd 2 project and as the NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative for UConn. Brown also previously served as head of the Department of Educational Psychology from 1994 to 2001.
“We are fortunate to have someone of his experience and dedication to UConn, Neag, and EPSY in this position,” says Siegle. “I look forward to Scott’s leadership as he helps all of us grow and make a difference in schools and our students’ lives.”
Brown earned his Ph.D. in psychology from Syracuse University, his master of science degree in psychology from Montana State University, and his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Boston University.
