Comparative and International Education in Cusco
Improve your Spanish proficiency and global competence with a semester-long immersion experience in Peru. Students take courses in Spanish, intercultural communication, and service learning at the Cusco branch of the Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola (USIL), an institution with proven experience serving international students, and engage with K-12 students at local schools. In addition, students have the option of living with Peruvian host families and participating in rich cultural experiences in the historic Andean city of Cusco and its environs. Students who participate in this program increase their Spanish proficiency and acquire invaluable cultural knowledge to bring back to their classes in the United States. In addition, students gain an important cross-cultural understanding of the realities of the Peruvian education system, which they explore while conducting school-based research to meet the inquiry project requirement of the IB/M program.

Prerequisites: This program is only open to admitted 5th year Integrated Bachelor's/Master's students during their 5th year.

Scholarship Support: The Neag School welcomes applications to its global education scholarships each spring. UConn's Office of Experiential Global Learning automatically reviews student eligibility for its scholarships through students' EGL program applications; no additional application is required.

Not only was I able to learn about the history and culture of Perú, but I was also able to intern at a local school.
