Undergraduate Commencement

The Neag School 2024 Undergraduate Commencement ceremony will be held at the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts at UConn Storrs.

  • Date: Sunday, May 5, 2024
  • Time: 
    • 7:45 a.m. — Student procession forms in Gentry Building Atrium. If there is severe weather, an announcement will be posted on this webpage and an email sent to graduates by 7:30 a.m. May 5, canceling the procession. In that instance, students will instead be directed to gather in the lower level of the Jorgensen before the ceremony.
    • 8 a.m. — Doors open for guests at Jorgensen
    • 8:45 a.m. — Class of 2024 procession begins
    • 9 a.m. — Ceremony begins at Jorgensen (Note: the ceremony will also be live-streamed.)
    • 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. — Reception for graduates and their families in the Gentry Building Atrium
  • Commencement Speaker: The Neag School of Education is thrilled to welcome alumna Kiana Foster-Mauro ’20 (ED), ’21 MA as our 2024 Undergraduate Commencement Speaker. Foster-Mauro is Connecticut's 2024 Teacher of the Year and teaches fourth-grade at Nathan Hale Arts Magnet School in New London.

 

Graduate Commencement

Master’s and Sixth-Year Candidates

The 2024 Graduate Commencement ceremony for master’s and sixth-year diploma candidates will be held at Gampel Pavilion at UConn Storrs.

  • Date: Monday, May 6, 2024
  • Time: 
    • 6:30 - 8 a.m. — Hooding assistance for graduates and light refreshments in the Gentry Building Atrium. Family members and loved ones are welcome!
    • 7 - 7:45 a.m. — Student processional forms in the Fieldhouse.
    • 8 a.m. — Doors open for guests at Gampel Pavilion
    • 8:15 a.m. – Student procession begins
    • 9 a.m. — Ceremony begins at Gampel (Note: the ceremony will also be live-streamed.)

Doctoral Candidates

The 2024 Graduate Commencement ceremony for doctoral candidates will be held at the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts at UConn Storrs.

  • Date: Monday, May 6, 2024
  • Time: 
    • 3 - 5 p.m. — Reception for doctoral graduates in the Gentry Building Atrium. Family members and loved ones are welcome!
    • 4 - 4:30 p.m. — Student processional forms at Jorgensen
    • 5 p.m. — Doors open for guests at Jorgensen
    • 5:15 p.m. – Student procession begins
    • 6 p.m. — Ceremony begins at Jorgensen (Note: the ceremony will also be live-streamed.)

 

Guest Tickets, Regalia, Parking, and More

The University's Commencement Office has established a website to provide easy access to information regarding the Commencement ceremony.  Many specific questions are addressed under Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) and the Student Preparation page.  Driving directions and nearby lodging information are also available on the website.

Tickets

Information about obtaining tickets is available on the University's Commencement website.

Should there be any extra tickets available for the Neag School Undergraduate ceremony, an email will be sent to students in late April inviting them to pick them up in the Dean's Office in the Gentry Building on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note: the Neag School cannot guarantee that there will be extra tickets available.

Directions and Parking

Handicapped parking is available in the North Garage.

Accessible Van Service will be available upon request on Saturday, May 4, Sunday, May 5, and Monday, May 6. Please make reservations in advance. To make a reservation, please call (860) 486-4991. This service is available to transport guests needing assistance from their parking lots to the ceremony venues.

Guest Accommodations

Jorgensen Auditorium

  • Handicapped seating is available on the main level of the Auditorium. If a member of your party requires handicapped seating for the Neag School's undergraduate ceremony on Sunday, May 5, please email neag-communications@uconn.edu by April 19. We will reserve seating for your entire party in a handicapped row. 
  • Wheelchair accessible rest rooms are located in the Jorgensen Lower Lobby. Elevator service is available from the Jorgensen Main Lobby to the Lower Lobby only. There is no elevator service to seats in the mezzanine or lower and upper balconies.
  • Remote ASL interpreting and CART services available at all ceremonies
  • Assistive Listening Systems are available free of charge from the Front Office. Please email neag-communications@uconn.edu by April 19 if someone in your party requires an assistive listening device and we will reserve one for you ahead of time.
  • Handicapped parking is available in the North Garage.

Harry A. Gampel Pavilion

  • Reserved area for wheelchair users on concourse level (all entrances to the Pavilion are accessible). This seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Upon entry, ask a member of the event staff in yellow jackets to point you to this seating area. One person from the party may sit with the guest in the wheelchair. Remaining members of the party must go into general guest seating.
  • Modified restroom facilities
  • Remote ASL interpreting and CART services available at all ceremonies
  • Handicapped parking is available across the street in the South Garage

Photography

Flash Photography is the official photographer for the University’s Commencement ceremonies. Proofs will be sent to the email address provided on the Name Reader cards distributed at the ceremonies shortly after graduation. Pictures can be ordered online or by phone. Flash Photography can be contacted via email or telephone.

Members of the audience using handheld cameras may take photos during the ceremonies. In order to accommodate everyone, individuals are requested to move to the side of the stage for only a short interval and then return to their seats. No tripods will be allowed in Jorgensen or Gampel.

Livestreaming

The Commencement ceremonies will be livestreamed via Total Webcasting for those who cannot attend in person. (The 2024 ceremonies will be added to the top of the page as we get closer to the events.)

Security

Metal detectors will be in use at all ceremonies held in Gampel Pavilion and the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts. You will be asked to remove cameras, cellphones, headwear, keys, and other large metal objects. You will not need to remove belts, coins, wallets, watches/jewelry.

Prohibited Items

Balloons are not permitted at the Commencement ceremony venues.
