For three days this summer, math teachers from three Connecticut school districts have worked with UConn faculty members and graduate students to develop skills and resources to enable them to meet new teaching and assessment standards and improve their students’ learning in math.

Neag School Higher Education & Student Affairs (HESA) alumni recently reconnected with friends and colleagues and networked at the first-of-its-kind, one-day professional development conference on the UConn campus. HESA is a graduate degree partnership program with UConn’s Student Affairs and the Neag School of Education.
Carly Buehler isn’t daunted by the idea of working with limited resources under challenging situations. The Neag alumna has been a volunteer teacher at a community school for orphans and other vulnerable, at-risk children in Lusaka, Zambia, since graduating in 2012.
The more Americans know about the Common Core Standards Initiative, the less likely they are to think it will achieve its goal of improving nationwide education outcomes in reading, writing, and math for K-12 students, according to a UConn Poll.
Neag professor James C. Kaufman is an internationally recognized expert on how each individual’s creativity can be tapped in a multitude of settings. One of his primary focuses is on breaking down the preconception that creativity belongs only in the arts.
Instead of accepting the negative effects the economy had on Sound Manufacturing, Vallieres used the educational principles she gained as a Ph.D. student in the Neag School’s Adult Learning Program to creatively direct her company out of this difficult period.
Holding her new book Treatment Integrity: A Foundation for Evidence-Based Practice in Applied Psychology, Dr. Lisa M. Hagermoser Sanetti was relieved and proud to show off the “exciting” results of a four-year project.

Teachers and administrators from throughout New England attended a Neag School-sponsored workshop that focused on challenging stereotypes, exploring gender roles, reducing bullying and helping ensure that school is a place where all youths—no matter what their background—can thrive.
