“We look for students who are passionate about wanting to be leaders and wanting to act on ideas,” explains Sally Reis, a faculty leader with the BOLD Women’s Leadership Network and UConn Board of Trustees Distringuished Professor in the Neag School of Education. “Some are very outgoing, some are quiet. But it’s that focused, intense drive to succeed, do good work, and change the world in a good way that we hope to find.”
Sally Reis, the Leticia Morgan Chair in Educational Psychology at the Neag School of Education, first connected to the University of Connecticut during her master’s program at Southern Connecticut State University in the mid-1970s. While in one class, she heard UConn Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor Joseph Renzulli talk about his work in educational psychology, specifically his internationally-known and pioneering work in gifted and talented with the Enrichment Triad Model.
A leadership program for undergraduate women at UConn has proven so successful the funder has donated $1.2 million to extend it for at least three years.
The grant provides scholarships and a transformative experience to several juniors through the BOLD Women’s Leadership Network. The BOLD program cultivates courageous leadership and career success in young women during college and after they complete their studies.
“Women bring a different voice and a different concern for what’s in the best interest of the planet, in the best interest of peace, and in the best interest of work that makes a positive difference,” says Sally Reis.
